Otto and Priestella’s knights keep Lye occupied while Felt searches for a powerful metia. Below city hall, Capella reveals that Al opened the floodgates and killed members of the Council of Ten, interfering with her operation. She transforms into Priscilla to provoke him, but Al decapitates and destroys her body; her regeneration immediately restores it. Garfiel remains locked against Kurgan and is distracted by hallucinations of Elsa. Knocked into the catacombs, he recalls Wilhelm explaining that the legendary Eight-Arms uses all his cleavers only against warriors he respects. Their battle enters a civilian shelter containing Garfiel’s younger half-siblings. He defeats a loose mabeast and finally breaks Elsa’s psychological hold, choosing to protect the living rather than fear another failure. The shelter’s civilians cheer for him, and Kurgan responds by unleashing his full arsenal. Garfiel survives a savage exchange and lands the decisive blow. For a moment, the resurrected warrior regains himself and praises Garfiel before crumbling. The victory is more than physical: Garfiel earns recognition from an ancient hero and accepts his own role as a protector. Nearby, Wilhelm’s duel with Theresia remains unresolved, forcing him to confront a far more personal resurrection.

Wilhelm fights the reanimated Theresia and tries to reach the woman inside the corpse. Heinkel’s arrival distracts him, allowing Theresia to defeat Wilhelm and turn toward their son. Reinhard intervenes and destroys his grandmother with a single strike. As her body fades, Theresia remembers rejecting violence despite inheriting the Divine Protection of the Sword Saint. She accepted the role only after relatives died in her place, then found freedom when Wilhelm defeated her and took responsibility for fighting. Their marriage and family brought years of peace. When the White Whale returned, Heinkel persuaded her to join the expedition despite Wilhelm’s objections. During the battle, her Divine Protection transferred unexpectedly to the young Reinhard, leaving her vulnerable to Pandora, who killed and later repurposed her body. Theresia briefly awakens in Wilhelm’s arms. They repeat their confession of love before she dies again, finally as herself. Heinkel attacks Reinhard for killing her, while Reinhard responds with emotional distance. Grief overwhelms the family: Wilhelm dismisses his grandson and carries Theresia’s remains away, and Heinkel collapses into rage. The battle ends, but the Astrea wounds exposed in Priestella remain unresolved.

Otto and the city knights cannot corner Lye, whose stolen abilities make him unpredictable. Julius and Ricardo fare no better against Roy, who uses swordsmanship, martial arts, and magic taken from consumed victims. Roy repeatedly calls Julius “brother” and refers to a forgotten past, unsettling him. In the underground trap, Al collapses city hall onto Capella, then reunites with Anastasia and Felix. He becomes suspicious when Anastasia displays unfamiliar magical power. Capella regenerates from the rubble but withdraws because her Gospel directs her elsewhere, leaving transformed mabeasts behind. Reinhard arrives and eliminates them. Otto deduces that Lye can reproduce the skills of people whose memories he has eaten. Lye demonstrates by consuming a knight’s name, instantly erasing the man from everyone’s awareness. When he prepares to force Otto to reveal his own name, Beatrice awakens and enters the fight. Lye already knows her and imitates Rem’s words from the memories he stole. Otto and Beatrice recognize that allowing him to meet Subaru would weaponize Subaru’s deepest grief. With limited mana and no Subaru nearby to replenish her, Beatrice nevertheless commits to stopping Gluttony before he can exploit Rem’s existence.

Beatrice holds off Lye with Al’s magic stones, but has few major spells without Subaru. Felt arrives carrying Echidna’s staff, the weapon her group sought. Lye tries to consume Felt’s name and convulses because “Felt” is not her true birth name. Beatrice activates the staff and critically injures him, but Louise Arneb, a third Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, appears and forces the defenders to let the siblings escape. The Witch Cult withdraws, ending the battle without complete victory. Emilia places Capella’s transformed victims in cryosleep until a cure can be found, while Sirius is captured for transport to the capital. Subaru questions Sirius, but she cares less about the Cult’s strategy than reviving Petelgeuse, whom she believes now resides inside him. She warns him about Gluttony. Priestella begins rebuilding amid deaths, injuries, and unresolved curses. Subaru reunites with his allies and expects Julius to share the relief. Instead, Emilia asks who Julius is. Subaru immediately understands that Roy has eaten Julius’s name, leaving the knight remembered only by Subaru. The season closes by replacing battlefield victory with another intimate erasure that Return by Death cannot simply undo.
