Subaru serves as Julius’s eyes while the knight battles Petelgeuse’s invisible hands through their shared senses. Petelgeuse attempts to possess Subaru again, but Subaru deliberately invokes Return by Death. The Witch’s presence rejects the archbishop, forcing him back into his ruined body, where Julius defeats him. Subaru rejoins the evacuation force and learns that the cult planted explosive fire stones beneath the wagon carrying Emilia and the children. Otto races him toward the convoy. Petelgeuse returns one final time, holding his body together with unseen hands, but Subaru burns him with Ia’s magic and marks the archbishop’s Gospel with “the end.” Reaching Emilia’s wagon, Subaru removes the explosives and carries them away on Patrasche. He throws them into the White Whale’s carcass beneath the fallen Flugel Tree; the blast knocks him unconscious, while Patrasche shields him. Subaru awakens hours later in Emilia’s lap. Rather than citing debts or secret sacrifices, he simply explains that he wanted to save her because he loves her. Emilia admits she cannot yet answer his feelings, but gratefully accepts his sincerity. Their reconciliation closes the season on a future earned through honesty rather than obligation.
