Rem dreams of childhood in the oni village where twins were considered an ill omen. Ram possessed exceptional power and drew everyone’s admiration, while Rem lived in her shadow. When the Witch Cult attacked, Ram’s horn was severed. Rem felt a moment of relief before horror and has carried guilt ever since, devoting herself to replacing everything her sister lost. In the present, Subaru’s strike restores Rem’s senses. As the mabeasts close in, Subaru stays behind so Ram can carry her sister to safety. He confronts the puppy shaman in its enormous transformed state and wounds it with his broken sword, but cannot stop its final attack. Roswaal arrives and destroys the creature and remaining pack with overwhelming magic, ending the curses on Subaru. Back at the mansion, Subaru awakens beside Rem and rejects her belief that she is merely an inferior substitute for Ram. He asks her to live for her own future and to begin again rather than remain imprisoned by guilt. His faith changes how Rem sees herself and Subaru. With peace restored, Subaru finally repeats his invitation to Emilia, and their long-delayed village date is accepted.
