A month after the mabeast attack, Subaru has settled into life at the mansion and grown closer to Emilia, Rem, and the villagers. Wilhelm van Astrea and the healer Felix Argyle arrive with orders summoning Emilia to the royal capital for the formal selection of the next ruler. Subaru insists on accompanying her and travels with Rem. In the capital, he thanks the fruit seller whose stall became his repeated checkpoint, meets the polished knight Julius Juukulius, and reacts jealously when Julius kisses Emilia’s hand. Subaru later encounters Priscilla Barielle being followed by the same alley thugs from his earliest loops. The situation reveals another royal candidate and brings him back into contact with Rom, who is searching for Felt. Emilia explicitly asks Subaru not to attend the castle gathering, fearing his impulsiveness will cause trouble. Subaru nevertheless accepts a carriage ride from Priscilla and her masked attendant Al, breaking his promise. Inside the throne room, the known candidates gather with their supporters. Reinhard then presents Felt as the fifth candidate, transforming the thief from the slums into a central figure in Lugunica’s royal election.
