Summary
Source-backed · Version: v1 · Original
Arlong shoots Bellemere in front of Nami and Nojiko after she pays the children's tribute instead of her own. Before dying, Bellemere tells them that she loves them and urges them to survive. Arlong then abducts Nami and forces her to create nautical charts for his crew. When the villagers prepare to attack, Nami returns with Arlong's mark tattooed on her shoulder and announces a bargain: if she can collect one hundred million berries, Arlong will sell her Cocoyashi Village. She insists that she has joined the pirates willingly, causing the villagers to pretend they believe her so she will not feel responsible for them. Over the next eight years, Nami steals from pirates and hides the money in Bellemere's tangerine grove. In the present, she is close to the required amount and still believes the agreement can end the occupation. Nojiko asks the Straw Hats to leave because Nami has endured everything alone to prevent more bloodshed. Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp are furious but wait for Nami's decision, following Luffy's example. Meanwhile, Arlong secretly contacts the corrupt Marine officer Nezumi, setting a plan in motion to steal Nami's savings without technically breaking his promise.
