Subaru takes Beatrice’s Tome of Wisdom and discovers its pages are blank. Beatrice explains that Echidna ordered her to wait in the library for an undefined “that person,” and after four centuries of isolation she now wants that person to end her life. Elsa interrupts, and Subaru tries to escape with Beatrice, but Meili and her mabeasts have already slaughtered the evacuees. Beatrice seemingly kills Elsa, only for the assassin to revive and stab her from behind. Beatrice uses her final strength to teleport Subaru to the Sanctuary. He arrives in a snowstorm and finds Emilia broken after repeated failures and Puck’s absence. Garfiel accuses Emilia of causing the weather, but Subaru realizes Roswaal engineered it to attract the Great Rabbit. Confronted, Roswaal kills Garfiel and Ram and reveals his own Tome of Wisdom. He cannot remember loops, yet the book has taught him that Subaru can redo events. Roswaal intends to force Subaru into choosing one person above everyone else, recreating his own obsessive devotion to Echidna. The Great Rabbit consumes the unresisting Roswaal. Subaru reaches Emilia, who kisses him with vacant affection while the rabbits devour him, ending a loop in which every available choice has been poisoned.
