Subaru, Emilia, Otto, and the unconscious Rem return to Roswaal’s mansion, where Ram has recalled the former maid Frederica and recruited Petra as an apprentice. Frederica explains that Roswaal, Ram, and the evacuated villagers are staying in the Sanctuary, an isolated settlement protected by a barrier. Subaru questions Beatrice about Petelgeuse’s Gospel, but she refuses a direct answer and tells him to seek knowledge in the Sanctuary. Frederica supplies Emilia with a crystal said to grant entry, though its reaction during the journey unexpectedly separates Subaru from the others. He awakens alone in the forest and briefly sees a pink-haired elf girl before following her toward ancient ruins. Inside, Subaru is drawn into a strange sunlit field and meets Echidna, the Witch of Greed, who casually invites him to tea. Her appearance contradicts every fearful image Subaru associates with witches, yet her calm curiosity is unsettling.
