Subaru visits Arlam Village with Ram and Rem and deliberately interacts with every resident, hoping Beatrice can later identify who placed the curse. The same puppy bites his hand, but Subaru initially focuses on finding a human shaman. Back at the mansion, Beatrice confirms that he is cursed and traces the contact to the bite, revealing that the harmless-looking animal is a mabeast. Subaru realizes the village children are also targets. He and Rem return at night and discover several children missing beyond the protective barrier. In the forest, they find most of them unconscious and marked by bites. While Rem treats the group, Subaru searches alone for the final child. He rescues her from a wolgarm, but a whole pack surrounds him under the puppy’s control. Rem arrives and cuts a path toward safety, revealing extraordinary combat power. As the mabeasts overwhelm them, her single horn emerges and she enters an uncontrollable oni state. Subaru refuses to abandon her despite knowing she once killed him. When a beast prepares to strike Rem from behind, he places himself between them, choosing courage and trust over self-preservation.
