Otto and Ram urge Subaru to escape immediately, but he first confronts Roswaal about Beatrice. Roswaal explains that her book is a Tome of Wisdom rather than a Gospel and claims Subaru can save her by declaring himself “that person.” Garfiel interrupts, forcing the group to flee. Ram stays behind while Otto and the villagers help Subaru cross the barrier, but Garfiel pursues and kills them before catching him. Subaru escapes the Sanctuary’s boundary only to be teleported by Frederica’s crystal. When he wakes, the Sanctuary is deserted and buried under unnatural snow. A swarm of tiny white mabeasts attacks; Subaru is devoured alive by the Great Rabbit in one of his most agonizing deaths. After resetting, the trauma leaves him barely functional until Echidna draws him into her tea party. She reveals that she knows about Return by Death and that the taboo preventing disclosure does not apply in her realm. For the first time, Subaru describes his loops, deaths, and helplessness to someone who can remember them. The relief shatters his composure. He weeps in Echidna’s arms, finally receiving acknowledgment that his discarded lives were real and that the pain he carried alone had value.
