A year after the Sanctuary incident, Anastasia invites Emilia’s camp to Priestella, promising access to a magic stone that might restore Puck. Subaru travels with Emilia, Beatrice, Otto, and Garfiel and reunites with the other royal-selection camps. The gathering exposes old wounds: Heinkel Astrea humiliates Reinhard and Wilhelm, while Subaru learns that Wilhelm blamed his grandson for inheriting the Sword Saint’s protection when Theresia died. Garfiel, still haunted by Elsa, encounters his mother alive under another name with a new family and no memory of him. Subaru also befriends the bard Liliana, complicating negotiations for the stone because its owner is infatuated with her. During an outing, Subaru, Emilia, and Beatrice meet Liliana performing beside Priscilla. After separating from them, Subaru finds a crowd entranced by Sirius Romanée-Conti, Sin Archbishop of Wrath. Sirius displays a captive child and throws him from a tower. The audience shares the victim’s injuries and joy, dying together as Subaru is killed. Return by Death sends him back to the earlier encounter with Liliana and Priscilla, leaving only minutes to understand an Authority that links emotions, wounds, and death across an entire crowd.
